The world famous watch series is 30 years old!
2013 might be unlucky for some but not G-Shock! The watch famous for its toughness and durability is turning 30 in 2013. The series was first released in 1983 when Casio introduced the DW-5000C the original G-Shock. Casio tasked Kikuo Ibe with creating the ultimate watch and that's just what he did and in doing so revolutionised watches opening up a new market for hardcore watches that could cope with everything you can throw at them.
It's now taken as a matter of course that if you buy a G-Shock it'll be almost impossible to break and will probably out live you! Kikuo Ibe and his team went through over 200 prototypes in the 2 year development period before launching the finished product the G-Shock DW-5000C in 1983.
Kikuo devised the 'Triple 10' scale which all G-Shock models must pass in order to be called G-Shocks. This stated that any G-Shock must have a 10 year lifespan, be water resistant to 10 bars or 100m and be able to survive a 10m fall.
In order to celebrate this remarkable achievement and as testament to a watch that continues to evolve and push the boundaries of what watches can do further and further. Casio and G-Shock are celebrating in style, kicking off a yearlong celebration in August 2012.
