A Flip Flop Hub Will Surely Take You Bike Riding To A Whole New Level

By Daniel Turbin

It sounds bizarre and something that has been made, but a flip flop hubcan be a key component of exciting fixie biking.

You might know by now that a fixie holds one gear and one gear cog. That's a given and the whole point of the experience it generates. Which means the speed and power it makes is all right down to you and your legs. It's a whole different means of savoring the road than your ordinary 10 gear derailleur set up. Exactly where does a flip flop hubcome into all of this?

Well it is a smart way of staying fixed gear but changing gear to go well with your terrain. It performs this by having a differently geared cog on the opposite part of the wheel. Wise eh? So you fast release the wheel flip flop it over in double quick time and hey presto! Off you go into the blue yonder.

It is an impressive idea that can be further customized. What if you do a lot of hill climbing? Then why not fit a freewheel to the 2nd side of the wheel? Flip it over when you go downhill and you can take a well earned rest. Needless to say when you do this remember to fit brakes since you can't back pedal to decelerate on a freewheel!

So the flip flop hubis a really plain idea, that allows you as a fixie addict to keep you fixed gear, but adjust flawlessly to your circumstances. You lose absolutely nothing with regards to functionality and challenge and open up a whole new area of landscape. It absolutely is not cheating and anyone who states so has not even tried a flip flop fixie. You really should give this a real go. You certainly will never believe you lived without it in the first place.
