Finding the best outside storage for your boat

By Erik Nelson

When you own a ship you may discover that you must find outside boat storage. This is especially so if you do not have room in your driveway or if your local municipality doesn't allow you to park the boat on your grass. There's also the need for seasonal storage in areas that experience winter weather.

Outside boat storage is a cheap way of keeping your ship safe in the off season. Storage is a neat way to guard your ship from damage, although not all storage locations are made equal. You want a pro facility with wonderful security custom as well as one which has enough room to properly store your ship in a manner that it will not get scratched or dinged.

Speaking of security, look around to see if there are cameras, guards, and locked access to the boat's storing space. You would like to have the peace of mind that your ship will be secure at any time of night or day.

In taking a look at your storage options, see if you can find a company that is content to deliver your ship to categorical locations, and one that offers launching and docking services. These are not deal smashers but they come in extremely convenient. Other wonderful service to have bundled along with the storage fees include sales, service, repairs, painting, winterizing, cleaning and detailing, and selling accessories. While you may not find a facility that offers all of these services, when you do it is fantastic to have a single-stop shop where you can build a professional relationship with the sales personnel.

One question to ask potential outside storage facilities is whether or not they check the docking area continually. You need a company that tests for bacteria and algae that might injure your boat's exterior. The outcome of these test are stored, so you can review them to see what the water quality's like.

Another good question is whether or not they provide any type of covering to protect your ship from stormy weather. When snow or water gets on the inside of the boat it can freeze and cause cracking. Some type of cover avoids that as well as defending your paint and customization.

Remember to ask for references from any storage location from whom you're considering renting space. A ship his a massive investment and you'll desire it cared for correctly.
