1. How can you tell direction. Navigation capabilities can get you from lost to out of the woods that you need to master before venturing into unknown and unchartered territory.

2. Understanding the more superior methods of finding direction. These involve knowing how to find your way at night time, by the wind, or by indicators on rocks, trees, and even the signs left as the snow melts. Paying attention to these and other signs will help you out of a jam.

3. Know how to locate safe shelter in the environment you are considering to inhabit. You will want to discover all probable sources of shelter that avail themselves. Learn how to assemble a shelter out of any readily available material.

4. How to make a fire. Fire is vital for survivla fro both safety, warmth and cooking. A fire can make you warm, light up your surroundings, cook food and discourage animals from coming near.

5. Know where food and drinking water can be found in any environment. Learn how to identify what plants can be eaten. Learn how to fish, trap animals, and how to prepare them for eating.

6. Learn how to identify if the water is safe to drink or not. For starters, learn to sterilize the water by heating it so that it will be safe for drinking.

7. The knowledge of applying first aid is one of the more important skills to be aware of. Also, packing an adequate survival food supply should be on the front burner. It should be on the top of you checklists.

8. Rocks, branches, and vines can make suitable weapons. They will come in handy as substitutes for a knife, club, hammer or even a pillow.
