Tactical Maneuvers With Thermal Target Systems

By Sharlene Fleming

Military prowess remains a closely guarded secret among most nations. As such the unveiling of military innovations is shrouded in a lot of speculations even when the new equipment is unveiled and tested. Basically this may be a strategy that is intended to guard the treasured secrets within the military. Such innovation like the thermal target systems has become an important military investment.

Such equipment is used to provide imaging position measurement as well as range location. Within such a unit is also communication devices needed to transmit crucial signals and data needed by the equipment for homing in purpose. This can include using laser beam and the global positioning system (GPS) for guidance.

The armed forces action has since turned high-tech. One benefit with such an approach is the reduced soldier casualty. In fact most of the wars being fought today are won on the technological ground which eventually pays with a complete overrun of the enemy. This of course depends on how the victor has used the technology in their hands to beat the enemy.

Apart from reducing civilian casualty it is also important to accurately use the ammo to take out the enemy. Technologically advanced equipment is also used to meet this objective and reduce ammo wastage. Therefore the equipment in use is generally high tech and can adapt to various situations as the need arises.

Such a unit will consist of imager systems that are controlled through real time platforms. This is necessary to deliver the ammunition accurately. In order to be able to operate with precision at any time there is the multifunction heat imagers that can be fitted on hand held or mountable weapons and used to enable night vision. With such equipment the soldiers are able to identify and home in on their enemy under the cover of darkness with equal precision.

It is also possible to have such units integrated to the central command. In this way they can be automated to operate and deliver ammunition by relying on preprogrammed processing. Therefore fewer soldiers are used during such an operation and less ammunition is wasted in the process of subduing the enemy.

The use of geostationary satellites is also important in delivering location and position for such equipment. Therefore apart from the reliance on the heat imager units GPS guidance is also used especially for long range ammunition delivery. Such technology can be incorporated in heavy duty units like those that are fixed on vehicles or even the light weight hand held weapons.

The design for such equipment is complex but basically has an imager and self positioning capabilities. There is also the range finder and a digital compass that work with the GPS to deliver long range ammunition with high precision. In this way thermal target systems have become a very important component of the present day military arsenal to enhance precision reduce casualties and wastage of ammunition.
