The Role Of An Indiana Fur Company

By Carmella Rolls

Different weather patterns call for different fads. Cold weather needs heavy dressing. There is a variety of options for people to wear including cotton, wool and pelt. Pelt is a very expensive by product. It is the mammal version on skin hair and is also known as pelt. An Indiana fur company is very specific on the type of pelt it processes.

The commercial value of pelt is very high due to its quality in nature. It is also on very high demand in places that experience cold weather all year round. This is because it is used in making warm wear. It is also of higher quality as compared to other materials.

Specific animals are tracked for their pelt which consists of ground and guard hair. Some like fish and the reptile family do not qualify because they have scales instead of hair. The most sought after animal for pelt is the rabbit. Other animals include: cats, dogs, seals and foxes among others.

Hunting and trapping supplies are equipped with sharp edges to hook the animals and prevent them from running away. However it is important to note that not all sharp objects can play this role. For the pelt to be acquired, the animal has to die. After demise the skin is then peeled off for processing.

The pelt or hair is meant to be extracted from the skin. The only way to do this is by taking the skin to a processing factory. At the factory, the freshly brought skin is washed and rinsed out in cold water. This is done in order to prevent blood from permanently staining the pelt.

The factories are equipped with the required tools, and chemicals to see to it that the pelt is processed. One of the procedures followed include tanning the pelt using a specific solution, in which the pelt is fully submerged into. This is done every twelve hours for two days.

The second stage of tanning follows a similar procedure. The solution used still contains water, salt and aluminum compounds. This stage lasts for a whole week. Tanning is a procedure meant to extract the layers of fat under the skin tissue. Treating it this way gives the pelt strength and makes it more durable.

The biggest disadvantage linked to an Indiana fur company is that animals have to be killed in order for pelt to be obtained. With the rising demand, the ration at which animals are killed may go higher than the animal reproduction rate.
